TEIN - Dampachi & Dampatty

If you're ever heard about the Japanese suspension brand TEIN, you have propably heard of TEIN's mascot Dampachi!?!

Well, Dampachi just got a new girl friend – Dampatty, a shy girl that we don't know very much about just yet. This is what TEIN says about her:

– We would like to thank you all for your continuous support and we would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our latest mascot “Dampatty”, the girlfriend of our existing loveable mascot “Dampachi”.

R34 Super GT Widebody

Apache Racing in Saitama Japan has come up with new widebody kit. Partnering with the custom guys from Final Konnexion and Brian Crower. The kit has design cues of legendary Super GT -series R34 bodykit. It can be mounted on GT-R or GT-t and it uses oem Nissan/Nismo GT-R front & rear bumpers.

The cars debyt is this weekend in Tokyo Auto Salon 2010.

This is how it started.

Starting to take shape. Notice the rear quarter, it panel goes all the way up to the trunk line. So you can fit this to either GT-t or GT-R.

Nice touch is the "stockish looking" GT-R wing with extended wing plates.

Monester offset & fitment in wheels is Final Konnexions trademark.
Notice that the side sills are made out of carbon fibre.

X-treme Car Show 2009

X-treme Tuning & Custom Car Show

The show was held in Helsinki Ice Hockey hall.

The X-treme show held in centre of Helsinki. The show had Customs, Hot Rods, Tuning, Styling, Ice, Motorsport, Bikes and more... The 2009 Nordic Tuner Awards Finals were held as well, with some 40 show cars around Scandinavia.
The show program had live stage, with some random guests. The international guests from USA, like the moroons Duane Meyer (ex-Boyd Coddington employee) and Bernt Karlsson aka the Discovery Channel TV-series American Hot Rod guys.
Duane almost got he's ass kicked at the night club – what a joke this dude is. Just as dumb the TV-series let's him to be. Eventually he got kicked out at the afterparty, hah.
I talked with Bernt at the saturday night X-treme afterparty – he was alright. He was very keen on finnish girls, lol.
Well, this was s nice show, but it missed a bit of cars in my opinion. Could have had more to see!?

Puppe's Supra with HC Graphics theme

Lemppa's +1000 hp RB26DETT. The reasent make over had, Carbon doors, bootlid etc. Bumpers are coming next, nice & light.

This beast had the fattest rear rims ever. Sick!

De Palma themed Impala. Nice three wheel motion, best old school in my opinion.

You can't go wrong with a HKS T51R turbo. This set up was found to feed 2JZ Supra.

After driving happily with the Evo through the summer it was time to show it some love and do some basic maintenance.
On the list for the day was changing the engine oil, change the brake discs and pads in all four corners and the brake fluid.
After driving the car on the track once this summer I noticed that the brakes started to fade really quickly and that at least the discs felt very worn out. I decided to change both the discs and pads all around to be on the safe side and at the same time upgrade to proper brake fluid as well.
I ordered the brake discs and pads from Camskill UK since they offered a great package deal and fast and cheap delivery to Finland.
Ideally I would have liked to upgrade to a bit "better" discs and pads especially for the front but this time I decided to go with stock parts.

As for the brake fluid I got Motul RBF 600 Racing DOT 4.

The brake fluid, as well as the oil, was bought from a local store TI-Tarvike Oy.

As for the oil I decided to with Castrol Edge 10W-60.

A new OEM oil filter and gasket for the drain plug was naturally also bought.

We started off by changing the oil and the oil filter. About 4,5l of fresh Castrol was poured into the engine.

After this it was time to tackle the brakes. The whole process turned out to be quite simple and the only small problem we encountered was the rear discs that was a bit jammed but eventually we got them off as well.

The old pads were actually in quite good shape (no idea about the quality though) but the discs were really worn out so it seemed like a good decision to change everything.

After this the brake fluid was changed (the old fluid had seen better days) and the brakes bled and now the car was ready to rumble again.

Vintage Rally Car Practice!
A new Rally video has DC Co-Founder and Rally Team Member Ken Block having a bit of fun in a vintage rear wheel drive Ford Escort at Team O’Neal’s Rally School in New Hampshire. World Rally Championship driver, Chris Atkinson joined Block for the practice and video that resulted, now live at dcshoes.com/auto.

Block purchased the vintage rear-wheel-drive rally car to practice and have fun in. Wanting to broaden his rally skills, the Euro-only-spec 1978 Ford Escort MK2 helps him let loose in a few non-Rally America Championship events. Don’t let the vintage shell fool you—under the hood sits a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder Millington engine that boasts 280 BHP. Couple that with a WRC-styled paddle shifting, six speed sequential gearbox and you have one fast vintage rally car.

Block took the car to Team O’Neil’s Rally School in July 2009 to put the vintage rally car through it’s paces, and Former Subaru World Rally Team driver Chris Atkinson joined Block to break it in. Neither Block nor Atkinson have much experience in RWD cars, so the rally session and video is a good look at the two of them to flip flopping between the driver and passenger seats.

Block will enter select races each year with this car, including Rally Defi in Canada this coming weekend, September 11-12. Block returns to serious Rally America National Championship competition—in a Subaru Impreza WRX STI—at Rally Colorado, September 19-20.

Gymkhana 2.1 – Ken Block & Rob Dyrdek

How do you improve on DC Co-Founder and Rally Team Member Ken Block’s insane Gymkhana Practice and Gymkhana TWO videos? On the heels of the hilarious episode of “Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory” on MTV, DC has released Gymkhana 2.1, a funny new video available now online featuring longtime friends Dyrdek and Block whipping around a Gymkhana course side-by-side—Block in his high-powered Subaru Impreza WRX STI, Dyrdek in his comical and somewhat powerful miniature version of Block’s rally car.

Gymkhana 2.1 takes the epic cinematography and driving from Block that you’ve come to expect from the Gymkhana videos and mixes in Dyrdek and his “mini-Gymkhana” kart. The two, who have worked together and been good friends since Dyrdek joined the DC skate team in 1995, decided to get the kart built and film the clip when Dyrdek made an appearance in the Gymkhana TWO video earlier this year. A custom mold was made to build it nearly identical to Block’s Subaru Impreza WRX STI (except for the head-out-the-roof part). The kart was wrapped in the same graphics as Block’s competition rally car, and a custom fireproof, FIA certified driving suit just like Block’s was even made for Dyrdek by Alpinestars.

The complete version of Gymkhana 2.1 features more of what’s seen on Dyrdek’s hit MTV show. Filmed in the same high-quality, HD style as the previous installments of Block’s Gymkhana videos, Dyrdek and Block brought the filming crew to El Toro Airfield to document the whole thing. The Gymkhana 2.1 video features all the near run-overs, drifting, racing and shenanigans that occur when two unique individuals like Dyrdek and Block hit the tarmac in polar-opposite-sized whips.

Alpinestars made Rob this custom driving suit specifically for this session.

Alien2nrs where cheking some Rally action about month ago, but we all have been really busy with our own projects that we haven't had time to post anything about that on blog... so here you go!

Maybe the biggest nutcase was the Russian driver Novikov whos jump was one the longest of the race. He just had a bit bad landing... pics from the Special Stage Leustu.

Citroen space shuttle with two Russian cosmonauts jumped at the speed of 146 km/h (91 mph). Yes, they had radar just before the jump. Sick speeds on gravel, huh. The jump was 55 meters (180 ft) long, landing bumper first.
Unfortunately, they had an accident later that day and could not finish the race.

Helsinki international air show

Alien2nrs team was visiting Helsinki international air show 15-16th august in small Helsinki-Malmi airport, Whole show was very well organized and it gathered 72000 spectators in two days.

Even airport was small they succeed to have there varied range of planes, from small ultras to Red Bull DC-6.

Also Finnish military aviation was well present.

In both day there was car vs airplane competition.

Car was no less than genuine legendary group-b Audi quatro S1, driven and owned by Juha Kankkunen!!

I had been send from Helsinki-Vantaa main airport to help local airport staff, so i had opportunity see it closer.

When asked nicely i was able to get in that beast and have a short ride as Juha moved it out of ramp area.

I have to say it was first time for me in working time to have a ride with group-b beast which was driven 4 time rally champion...LOL

Mitsubishi Evolution IX GSR -06

Allrighty, I thought it would be time to introduce the newest member of this crew. The car has already featured shortly in this blog before, in the white car photoshoot by Juhis but here's a short introduction and some specs.

After owning two Saabs (yeah, go figure) I just got a sudden urge of trying something totally different. After some serious surfing on the web I spotted a white, slightly modded, Evo 9 for sale in western Finland and I decided I just got to have it. I did some research on the car and also found out that it is supposed to be the only white street registered Evo 9 in Finland.

After some initial troubles with getting a deal on the car the papers were finally signed in february 2009 and I was a happy owner of a Evo 9 :)

Here are some specs on the car:

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX GSR -06

Engine:
- 4G63 MIVEC – 2.0 16v Turbo
- ARP head studs

- Custom full 3" exhaust
- Printsport/Karala reprogrammed ECU

Some future plans for the car (within an undefined period of time) include the following:

- Install coilovers (Tein Mono Flex are bought and waiting)

- Change the brake discs and pads which are quite worn out
- Upgrade the clutch, probably a Exedy Hyper Twin Plate
- Upgrade some bushings and sway bars in the suspension
- Change the cold air intake, probably to HKS Racing Suction Reloaded
- Upgrade the intercooler + pipes
- New manifold and possibly some nice new catback (drooling at the Agency Power catback)
- Defi Link BF meters
- Maybe some bodykit at some point
- A serious buffing session

Cleaning enginebay

Now that car have a good start in exterior look, its time to start make enginebay cleaner.

11 years have done its duty and lot be done, so have to start somewhere.

It started with changing intake pipe and adding radiator coolingplate.

Zero/Sports intake pipe and radiator plate.

Zero/Sports quality is excellent as usual.

Lot to be done, but its a good start.

Rally Finland: What makes the Finns such good racing drivers?

Again Alien2nrs crew is heading for "Gravel Grand Prix" aka Rally Finland.

Neil Cole said it quite good....

It was nice of Top Gear to remember rallying a few weeks back; that airbase Impreza-dressage by a goofy American skateboard-shoe millionaire was fun and impressively-filmed. But to a rally fan that is just a walk in the park... almost literally. Just like the car-chase sequence at the start of Quantum Of Solace - grown stuntmen went "Perfomance cars? Sideways? On gravel? Next to a big drop? No thanks! Run away!!..." so up steps triple British Rally Champion Mark Higgins, happy to take the wheel of a Bond villain's Alfa Romeo and drive under what, to him, are entirely normal conditions. That is what I love about rallying; whether you're standing knee-deep in Norwegian snow, or next to a Tex Avery-style Mexican cactus, or in sideways freezing Welsh rain, the popping banging whistling physics-defying hunk of metal flying past is NORMAL.

And so to Finland. We are entering the last 3rd of the 2009 season - and incredibly the World Championship is genuinely competitive again. Loeb's Schumacher-like 5-year stranglehold on the sport, like his unfair share of the good luck, has dissipated in three consecutive bad results. Which means the pressure is on everyone this weekend. Couple that with the fact that Rally Finland is already the fastest, craziest, most flat-out rally of the year - the "Gravel Grand Prix" - and I cannot WAIT to endure the mosquitoes and vodka'd-up Finns in the lakey forests outside Jyvaskyla to catch a glimpse of a WRC car always sideways, usually in mid-air, often millimetres away from disaster. Normal... for the Finns.

There are many theories as to why the Finns make such good rally drivers - "they are driving farm vehicles before they can walk" "they learn to drive on snow & gravel rather than tarmac & speed-bumps" "they are driven self-endangeringly nuts by daylight-free winters". Perhaps it is this "Sisu" they talk about - "Sisu" is a Finnish word, whose meaning is somewhere between "cojones" and "chutzpah"... or as Sebastien Loeb told me back in 2005 "big balls". And he should know - even in his recent all-conquering years becoming the most successful driver in the history of the sport, it took him until 2008 to win there, and arguably deserve the greatest rallying accolade - letters after his name like the Toivonens, Makinens, Vatanens, Kankkunens, Salonens before him: Loebinen.

Big talking point right now is Jari-Matti Latvala. Undisputably one of the fastest, most exciting drivers out there... but also unreliable. I think, this weekend, he will either end up on the podium or in one of the thousand lakes this event used to be named after. One thing is for sure, if he's leading on Sunday ahead of team-mate Mikko Hirvonen, he can expect the kind of team orders Malcolm Wilson charitably (and now I am sure ruefully) avoided in Sardinia. After the frankly stupid mistake in Poland - which, come the end of the season, could cost Ford both championships - JML will be lucky if the boss is still speaking to him. He certainly wasn't the last time I saw them. Former World Champion Petter Solberg had an interesting perspective on JML: "It's not like people can blame it on his age, he's not young any more... and he's done more rallies than me!"

We will also see Kimi Raikkonen out of his current F1 Ferrari discomfort-zone, cutting loose in a Punto, competing for the first time ever in a WRC event. He is excited about it, despite appearances to the contrary. Finns, especially Kimi, have a reputation for being grumpy and over-serious - but I just think that's a language thing... their monotone speech patterns mean that a phrase like "I am extremely happy" is delivered in the same tone as "I may have run over your grandmother". But they do have a heart, honest; some of my best friends are Finns.

Enjoy Rally Finland - it is one of the best sporting events known to humanity. I shall be there - watch the highlights on Dave on Sunday night at 6pm, but I also have a habit of breaking big news on twitter, so feel free to follow me @neilcole. One thing is for sure, as the world's best rally drivers push themselves over the limit, it will take more than the latest double diffuser to decide this one... in Finland the "aero package" is simply the balls you need to go big over the jumps.

Don't try this at home...

After Ken Block's first spectacular "Gymkhana Practice" tire-hazed its way to Internet popularity, IMV Films geared up to produce a ridiculous SPOOF of the original. Make no mistake, this over-the-top video IS SARCASTIC, RATHER THAN SERIOUS... all with a wicked sense of humor*.

*Don't complain about poor taste or professionalism if you:
1- HAVE NO SENSE OF HUMOR
2- ARE A PRUDE.
3- ARE PRO-LIFE

The TOTAL, all-inclusive budget (including vehicle + all equipment / props) was 1/10th the cost of a single "Gymkhana Racing Engine."

New suspension for Impreza

Impreza´s suspension was also updated by fitting TEIN super street coilover set with pillowball upper mounts.

Old TEIN springs and KYB shocks.

New set fitted.

Adjusting camber, caster and toe.

Camber was set in 1.20 degrees angle which helped to reduce typical annoying understeer of Impreza.
